Sesame-crusted Seared Tuna

Seared tuna is easily one of my favorite foods. I used to buy tuna crusted with white and black sesame seeds from The Lobster Place, so I decided to try and make my own version.

I had a little under a pound of tuna, which I cut into two pieces. Let it sit out of the fridge for about 10 minutes before cooking, so that if you want it rare it's not ice cold in the middle once it's done. Give it a healthy sprinkling of salt and pepper, and then cover it in black sesame seeds.

Heat up a skillet over medium-high heat with a little canola oil, and put the tuna in. Once it's in the pan, don't touch it until you're ready to turn it. You can see the cooked part begin to creep up the side. Depending on how rare you want it, keep an eye on the sides of the fish. I wanted it very rare.

When the fish was done I held the rare sides of each steak to the skillet for a few seconds, just to barely cook them. Serve with soy sauce on the side.

It's best to slice the fish across the grain...

Yum! I could eat this every day of the week.
